WHY I LOVE MY COMPUTER : 2O REASONS
December 21, 2007
The moment I touch the POWER button (love that word), I enter a brain tunnel between myself and my computer. We share a mind-meld of connectivity and understanding.
The top of my skull lifts off and my brain flows out of my head in a thousand directions, like a multicolored gas that goes out the windows of my house and searches out every place and person it wants to see. Australia is no further away than the kitchen.
I’m so single-minded that I could be meditating.
Celebrating a new category : Love My Computer
1. I can make it think it’s anywhere.
2. It lets me try out fun new personalities.
3. A few passwords later, I feel that I have a friend who really understands me.
4. It connects me to a whole world of imaginary friends.
5. The only normal people in this world are the ones you don’t know very well – so on my computer, everyone seems normal.
6. Shop anywhere, anytime. The stores never close.
7. It’s easier to travel with than a pet.
8. It lets me do all the talking.
9. Time can be controlled much better than IRL (in real life) – you can store, forward, pause and revisit it whenever you like.
10. You are an instant media baron, able to consume, block or publish anything you want.
11. It’s a two way street – you can publish anything you want so the quality is all up to you.
12. Mountains can be moved, worlds collided, space traversed and stocks checked in tidy separate windows, all before breakfast.
13. You never have to wash your hands before or after.
14. It doesn’t want anything from me and never asks me to do anything.
15. It never interferes with my sleep.
16. It cannot make me gain weight or feel exhausted.
17. I learn 10 new things every day with it.
18. I can be connected without ever needing to make small talk.
19. I don’t have to wake up at 2 AM to speak to someone in Denmark.
20. Because it reminds me that we are all connected.
