This Month In Elle Canada March 2010 : Is Minimalism Sexy?
March 13, 2010
The article “Goodbye, Gaga” considers whether minimalism and simple lines are sexy.
David Livingstone’s “contemporary avatar of fashion” (in the same article) is worth the price of the magazine. It’s a guy’s perception of a woman who follows the 2010 fashion recommendations, like the ones in the photo layouts later in the magazine.
My question about the whole “What Is Sexy?” thing is this : Did anyone ask any guys?
Who knows a man who insists that women in gladiator platforms are sexier? And is that the man we want?
Mr. Livingstone’s subtitle refers to the quiet celebration of minimalism’s return. I’m pretty sure he speaks for the crowd.
Also worth noting that this is a good Canadian fashion magazine that can be subscribed to at incredible discounts, like $6 a year, certainly not more than 10.

Got something to say? I hope so.

You know what I’ll say: Yes, Yes, Yes!!! (as I shake my hair in the shower…)
Because it frees up so much energy for the things or pursuits that don’t need to be minimal, but instead need to flow in abundance. The sexiest thing about people for me is to see their gifts and talents and be enriched by them.
If for some people chaos and antiminimalism is their thing, them that’s sexy to me too.
What is unsexy to me are the things (too many sometimes) that cover up who we are and make us forget about ourselves.
Hi, everyone,
What I’m really noticing these days are all of the women who work altogether too hard to comply with what someone told them beauty should be. Easy beauty is so much better – and as Fil said, boy does it free up a lot of time! and money! I’m really not anti-celebrity, but I am anti-inferiority compared to an ideal that is so artificial.
Simple is good. I guess you could call it Retro fashion and classic. It is kind of like the ‘hair’ issue…someone says straight hair is in so if you don’t have straight hair you go out and get a straightener or chemically treat it…but not everyone looks good in straight hair. We typically look better in what we have and should make that the best it can be instead of trying to look like everyone else.
By the way, the dress the model is wearing on the cover, would it be for say a Bright Winter?
Jeannie,
Sorry for the late reply. The pendulum always goes too far, it seems, perhaps how QVC makes their money. I hope it corrects soon, and women start asking for the hair colour they’re supposed to wear, pointy-toed shoes disappear, and we ask ourselves if the fashion layouts in the magazines were really ever intended to be worn by real women. I would wonder about Bright Spring for that dress.
