The DVD I Use To Heal

January 26, 2010

I was doing an exercise move a week ago that felt fine at the time. A day later, I realized I’d hurt the meniscus in my knee. I don’t even want to contemplate the possibility that it cannot heal itself. There are those times, but this isn’t one, I hope.

I absolutely believe our body can heal in an accelerated way, just like I believe you can accelerate your life.

I believe that your food contains your medicine till proven otherwise. Food can be powerfully anti-inflammatory (and anti-aging) if you make the right choices.

I believe that there is no division between Nature and our bodies, between the energy fields around us and within us. There is also no distinction between what is happening to your body and what is happening in your mind. Your Deeper Self and these forces are one and the same, fully swirling and intertwined.

I believe that when something happens, there is a reason for it. It is the time to push you in a new direction.

I believe that you better be careful what you ask for because you will get it.

I believe that if something in your life isn’t going as you wish, your first step should be to flip the mirror 180 and look harder at yourself.

Having laid that groundwork, and since I instantly become a pessimistic wreck if I can’t exercise somehow, I decided to hobble over to WalMart to look at the Pilates selection, while I await my Pilates/flow yoga order from CollageVideo.

I found this. For $5 (they only had Level 1), how could it be bad?

Below is the 4 video set, available on the Jennifer Kries website.

Well, it’s far better than bad. It’s simply awesome.

The program has about 8 sections. There is a 20min. session of each yoga, Pilates, and ballet, all appropriate to a Level 1 of 4 position.

This is way more. It’s a brilliant integration of mind with body, taking the concept further than just repeating the “mind-body”expression, but actually explains and demonstrates it. There are fabulous sections on understanding and awakening energy sources, meridian medicine, chakras, and ancient healing beliefs in Chinese medicine in ways that will work for you today. Everything is short and concise, not overly meta-energy. She is a serious practicioner, a graceful athlete, and so pleasant to listen to.

I haven’t really been open to those ideas, or I’ve never had to be.

So what was the message? What was I supposed to learn? Why did I have to be forced to open up to this type of movement and thought?

Could this be the big flashing sign in the sky saying “lean back and stop pushing”? That it’s time to allow and to receive and wait quietly, and accept that I’ve pushed hard enough for long enough. A change is needed.

In this clip, Jennifer explains the Hot Body Cool Mind workout concept.

On this page, you can read about Waking Energy. I do the Sitting version 3 times a day. The more I do it, the better it feels. I like the doing part. I’m not good at just sitting, though I seem to be headed that way.

At beYOu.tv, this is a preview of Waking Energy Standing. You can find Jennifer on YouTube too.

My knee is getting better all the time.  My heart is feeling cautiously extra-pumpy that something good is going to happen.

At 12B, answering the question of whether you can borrow colours from your neighbor Seasons. Why, yes, I did use the picture at the top in that article too, but I like it a lot. It’s how life should be.

This series is brilliant! I discovered it a couple of years ago, and it has changed my outlook on exercise and maybe even life itself.

    Amy and Christine,
Do you do these regularly, that is, on a schedule? Or just whenever you feel like it.

I’m so glad you are as excited about them as I am. The DVD I have amazes me. I feel GREAT. I feel that my knee will be fine, but I’m in no hurry. The more I do it, the more I get from each of the segments. It is SO connecting to the Universe and its webs of energy. I’m going to buy the whole series. Do you own them all?
I do the Waking Energy Sitting every day. I’m addicted to it. I do 1 or 2 of the other segments every day. I’m biking a bit and just enjoying feeling my knee wake up and the rest of me inhabit a whole new space. I’ll buy you one at WalMart. I’d buy 4 and give them out as gifts.
I agree with Amy, it’s another of those “the future ain’t what it used to be” discoveries.

I do the Waking Energy Sitting every day too. I think it’s one of the most beneficial. I try to do a few more segments, depending on the day. On days I don’t go to Pilates, I do one of the Tracy Effinger Squeeze DVDs. (I think I discovered the Squeeze series on this site.)

I’ve started meditating (at least I’m learning to), and I really think this series helps.

And good luck with your knee!

I own all four of this series, and all four are excellent. I don’t own any of her other DVDs. Some of her Pilates DVDs are available on Netflix. I’ll try them out and get back to you.

    Christine,

Sorry to clog up your comments section. I did segments of the third series again this morning. Once I think about it, I really think the first two are the the best.

Why? What’s not great about the third, and what are the first two?

I wonder the same thing as Sonja. Do they stop progressing in difficulty, or repeat the moves?

Got something to say? I hope so.
