THE AMAZING POWER OF DELIBERATE INTENT

January 5, 2008

Most of us have heard about the 2006 book and movie entitled The Secret. The material was so aggressively marketed, and so focused on how to become wealthy, that many people were introduced to it in some form of media.

I hadn’t got round to reading it last summer, before this new book was forced on me. I fought if off at first because I typically find nothing that speaks to me in motivational/inspirational books. I never learn anything I don’t already know or see my ideas from a better perspective.

Where self-discovery starts

At the time, I had been asking my family and very close friends this question – if you accept that the only mountains you have to climb are in your own head, and I accept that entirely, then why is it still so hard to see them? Why does this acceptance not unveil the answers as to how I am my own biggest obstacle?

I thought about it some more and the question became “How does the scaffold of my beliefs about the world and my life in it, the skeleton on which I hang all my thoughts, prevent me from moving forward?” Better question, but still no answer that I could see.

Only you can know your deepest Resistances

I asked some people I trust.

It was suggested to me that, for all the goals I’ve been talking about, I make a move in that direction, or just stop talking about it. Agreed. It was also suggested that maybe I want too much too soon, that my plate is already pretty full, and that if I wait, a better time will come along. Also agreed.

Patience is not what I’m best known for. Maureen Dowd is a brilliantly funny woman, a political journalist with a sharp tongue, and an author of books with titles like Are Men Necessary? She was asked once, in an interview (I’m sorry, I don’t recall the source) :what is the best trait a man can have? She said, Patience. And what is the best trait a woman can have, answer : Impatience. So, I’ve made my peace with that side of my nature and wouldn’t change it if I could.

I realized that there was a fog that was preventing my Resistances from taking a shape that I could then dismantle. It was coming from so deep within me that I couldn’t see it and no one else could either. Maybe your own set of Resistances doesn’t even matter. Maybe there’s no need to tear them down. It just seemed like the place to start.

The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent

A great friend, Tracy, whom I hope will honor us with some guest blogs later on, insisted that I read The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent : Living The Art of Allowing, by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

Tracy is more about energy while I tend to be more about analysis, but I’ve always loved being exposed to material that I would not normally pick up. She persevered till I finally read the book. It was great.

This is a book in a series by these authors. Other titles include The Law of Attraction : The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham and Ask and It Is Given : Learning to Manifest Your Desires. Previous books by these authors are tied in so that you understand the background.

Much of the content and thinking of the movie The Secret is drawn from this work. You will fully get the gist of it without the marketing buildup from reading this book.

The Law Of Attraction

This law is the basis of the whole thing. It says that we are magnets for the things we think about.

Just by having an awareness of your desires, learning to see how you’re blocking them from happening, being deeply thankful for all you’ve got and will get, and fully trusting and expecting that these things are coming to you, you will achieve anything and everything.

You must practice The Art of Allowing those things which you want. You must develop a self-consciousness of your Resistances.

Strongly recommended

Even if you find the material about creating your own reality too wacky for you, I guarantee that you will find very effective methods to immediately feel better about anything that’s bugging you.

At CDN $13, you should buy this book. I can honestly tell you that it brought enormous change into my life and I believe it will do the same for you. You will be surprised at how easily and quickly you feel relief and calm where you now feel hopelessness, frustration, or worse.
