KEVYN AUCOIN : ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE
April 1, 2008
You may remember Kevyn Aucoin from the article on the light concealer. He wrote a handful of books about makeup and its application prior to his death. He died at the height of his fame of complications from a brain tumor, at the age of 40. At that time, having him do your makeup came with a price tag of $4500

Take a look at this model and her makeup, from Sephora’s Classic Glam look.
It’s pretty to look at, but which of the women you know could create this look, let alone look good in it? The makeup industry has taught us that all this color is somehow beautiful and that we’re not properly expressing ourselves if we don’t look like this. We didn’t teach each other that, did we? Was it ok on our younger selves, but now we’re unsure what to replace it with?
13 THINGS I’VE LEARNED FROM WORKING WITH MEN
March 24, 2008
I love working with men. They bring their male rules of conduct into the workplace and they fascinate me. They’ve set up the game, they know the rules well because they play by the same set in every aspect of their life.
Women don’t innately understand these rules, but in the workplace, the guys’ way sure does work if you happen to meet the public every day and have (or want) a leadership position. This is because “the public” is just all of us. Our social training has taught us that the male approach signifies confidence, experience, and ability.
THIS IS NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR
March 18, 2008
My salvation as a wife and mother of young children depended on talking with other women. That was how I knew that everyone’s life, house, and marriage were the same as mine. We shared survival strategies.
We had a laugh about the day we came out of the bathroom to find every sock in the house in use as a Barbie sleeping bag. We shed tears for one another, when we remembered what getting up every single hour for 2 days does to your spirit. We could relive the trauma of childbirth and child-raising, healing ourselves with an audience that cared. We did what women do. We processed thoughts by conversation and learned to be mothers.

March 8, 2008
Feel The Fear, Do It Anyway is the title of a great book by Susan Jeffers. For a long time, I used that phrase to guide my actions. I figured “You stay outside your comfort zone, you continue to beat down your demons.”
Then the Law of Attraction, or LoA, came along in the form of Esther and Jerry Hicks. You can read my article on their book, The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent. That book did more to change my life than any other “self-help” book has
THIS MONTH IN OPRAH : HOPE, HAPPINESS, AND MORE.
March 6, 2008
I enjoy reading Oprah when I’m in a waiting room but I seldom buy it. I don’t often connect with the topics. Dr. Phil, Suze Orman, retail items I can’t afford, US politics, solutions to problems I don’t have, celebrities I don’t care much about,… But in this issue, I found tons to interest me.
I bought the magazine for one article. “Shift Happens tells of the TED prize. $100,000 and the help to realize a dream are given to 3 people who must propose a world-changing wish.
HEY, UNIVERSE, ARE YOU IGNORING ME?
March 4, 2008
Where do you look when you lose your way? What happens when you’ve Trusted. Relaxed. Expected. You’ve stayed positive. You sincerely believed there would be a result for all your efforts. You would have gladly accepted any result, not necessarily the one you had in mind when you set out.
In the past (and in the present), there have been times when I have felt lost and unsure of myself. I remember feelings of frustration at not seeing the answer clearly and immediately before me. Looking back on these times, I realize that I was simply not ready for these answers.
WHAT THE HECK IS QUINOA?
March 2, 2008
You’ve seen it on the Superfoods lists, but just how strange and complicated will it be to learn to use it? Is it super enough to bother learning to use it?
It is as tricky as rice, cooks faster, and is great. You know I would never exaggerate how easy something is, since one of my driving forces is to spend the least possible time dealing with food. Do you know that quinoa comes closer than any food, vegetable or animal, in supplying all the necessary nutrients for life?
