Product Review : Aveda Lip Tint SPF 15
June 9, 2008
By far my favorite Aveda product is the makeup. The pigments are lovely, the colors, for the most part, are very wearable though the whole collection looks shinier every time I look at it.
They make 2 makeup products that are luminary. The first is the sheer tinted foundation with sunscreen, called Inner Light Tinted Moisture SPF 15. The colors for light to medium skin tones hold your eye for several seconds because they’re really excellent. If it were not so moisturizing, I’d use it regularly.
Their best product, the one I buy again and again, is the sheer Lip Tint with sunscreen. I buy Apricot, but Peony is beautiful too for women with pink undertones. For medium skin tones, Copper and Berry are striking colors, really exceptional. The representation of the colors on the Aveda site is quite accurate.
The amount of pigment is just right. Glosses that have very little color… I don’t get the point of spending money there. Why not buy a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker in Dr. Pepper and call it a day? If you want a lip gloss with sunscreen, just buy a balm. Lots of companies make them. But if the combination of the feel of a perfect balm, very flattering colors for real faces, and effective sunblock appeals to you, this is definitely a product to know about.
They could take out some of the shimmer and I wouldn’t miss it, but in a light colored lip product, shimmer helps to contrast the lips from the rest of the face. I love the look and real-world practicality of neutral makeup in lip colors but recognize that something has to make the lips stand out so they don’t look the same color as the skin, and shine or shimmer are the best ways to get there.
Every time I apply it, it crosses my mind how incredibly well made this product is. The application is creamy and thick rather than oily as I somehow expect most of these products to be. Many lip products, including glosses and lipsticks, SPF or not, go on in a thin, slimy film. I really hate that. This one doesn’t and lasts better than any lip gloss out there.
