Advice For Girls Of All Ages

September 5, 2008

1.     Never let a boy tell you what you think. Let yourself graduate.

2.     There are no last chances. No last chances to get in on a game. No last chances for amazing jobs. There is always another chance.

3.     Make time for imagining your perfect contribution.

4.     You never have to be perfect. 80% is plenty good enough. Don’t hold out for 100 or nothing, or you’ll move in reverse.

5.     Fight to defend your health. It’s the best thing you have. It’s your battery, your power source, and your grounding wire.

6.     Don’t trust a boy who only tells you what you need to know. How does he know?

7.     Cats teach us that power is not about size.

8.     You’ve only got so much worry in you. Don’t use it all up on stuff you won’t even remember in 2 weeks.

9.     Same goes for anger.

10. The harder you work, the luckier you get.

11. Women are the ultimate collaborators. Working together, there is nothing they cannot achieve.

12. Don’t trust a boy who’s sure he’s right. Just let him think you believe.

13. Distinguish “work” and “struggle”. Work is intense pleasure. Struggle is intense grind.

14. For one day, don’t say anything bad about yourself. Sister, you are getting better all the time. Everyone else knows it. So why don’t you?

15. Be your own rock. Be your own hero. Don’t diminish yourself or you will hear it and you might believe it’s true.

16. Hear the meaning rather than the words. Don’t find offense where none was intended.

17. You get things by not needing them. Be so glad with what you have that if you didn’t get more, let it be ok. Hold constant intention with constant thankfulness if you want anything to change.

18.  Everything is easy after you try it. It’s thinking about it that’s hard. So don’t think too much. Get in there.

19.  Others see themselves reflected in your eyes. See them as cheap and selfish and that’s what they see in your eyes… and that’s what you’ll get back.

See them as “successful and strong”  and that’s what they’ll see reflected back at them… and that’s what you’ll get back. Become a mirror that echoes them exactly as you want them to be and they’ll become that image.

20. If a boy tries to tell you what you think, don’t let him get away with it twice.

My daughters have reminded me that I forgot to include the one I tell them the most :

    21. Never count on a boy to take care of your feelings. You handle that for yourself.

(I really don’t have anything against boys. Allowing ourselves to morph into mushballs when there’s a boy around is what I take exception to : ) ).

Got something to say? I hope so.
