3 Workouts You Should Know

May 1, 2009

The  Collage Video site and the customer reviews do a great job of describing each program so I’m not going to. The hurdle with Collage is sifting through the 750+ choices to find the gems. Here are 3 superstars that I would not be without.

1.     Squeeze with Tracy Effinger.

If you get through it with a 2 lb weight, you’re a powerful woman, regardless of what you usually lift. I can’t complete the arm section with 1.5 lbs. It gets into the movement and the muscle something unbelievable. There are stretching breaks, lots of bonus sections, total body attention, and the time flies. No question, this is one of the best examples of how much you can accomplish by exercising at home. Any kind of ball will do.

The title above is linked to the Effinger search page. Click on any title there to take you to the details for the program.

2.     Cathe STS Ab Circuits

Part of the new Shock Training System, which consists of 40-some discs, but you can buy this one separately. It includes 6 separate ab workouts based on weights, yoga, Pilates, and more. Delivering no less than the excellence and challenge you expect, these are not beginner moves.  Cathe never does anything bad, but she is now at her peak. She is at her most professional, calm, beautiful best.

3.     Karen Voight Energy Sprint

Quite possibly the best designed workout ever made, by another pro who never does anything less than superb. It’s been out 15 years or so but it never dates. It’s as hard as you make it. It’s safe. It is so thorough. You can do it without the step but it’s better with it. It takes the cardio up and part way back down and up again a little higher with masterfully calculated objectives.  The cardio and strength crescendo together and drop back in a deliberate design that amazes me.

Hi there – Any video suggestions for those of us who are at the beginner level? I’m familiar with exercise techniques, as I used to work out quite a bit, but am just really out of shape right now and would rather ease back into an exercise program. Suggestions welcome!

    Thanks,
    Mary-Ellin

    Hi, Mary-Ellin,

If you used to exercise, you might consider the Intermediate level. I’m thinking that you’ll move through beginner levels very fast and then not use the DVD so much. Most programs have an exerciser modifying all the movements to an easier and/or no-impact level and the description of the program will tell you that. I like having something to work toward but I have to be sensible about not doing some moves till I’m ready for them. In this article, both Energy Sprint and Squeeze can be done by a beginner with no step and no weight, respectively.
Who else comes to mind at intermediate? Kari Anderson, Patricia Moreno, Karen Voight, Gin Miller, Michelle Dozois, Tracy York. You can search at Collage Video by level and by instructor name. Watch a few of the 1 minute video clips to get a sense of the instructor.
Stay with it. Exercise is more important than having your colors analyzed – and that’s saying something ! :)

hi! I love what you said about my Squeeze DVD! Did you ever get to do the other ones? Are they still on your wish list? I would love you to see them and my art work at my site. If I send you a DVD will you write about it?

    Hi, Tracy,

I would be only so pleased to write about a DVD. I’ve seen the previews for the 2 I don’t have at Collage and they’re definitely on my wish list. I can tell already how great they’ll be. I can understand why women don’t work out at home when you need all sorts of space and equipment. Your programs are a testament to how much can be accomplished in your living room without all that stuff. I’m always amazed at how well thought out the movements are in terms of effectiveness. And how different from the old stand-by exercises.

I’m working on uploading a Personal Success Story at Collage, hoping I can win some free DVDs, yours among them. I spent all my money on becoming a colour analyst, see. If you lived near me, I’d trade you a PCA for those DVDs. I’ll gmail you my address, but we should wait till August. I’m away most of July.

I looked at squeezebytracy.com . Good site!! The jewelry is very cool. Are the paintings online ? I didn’t see them.
