Bike Sprints And Ab Intervals

June 30, 2008

The purest thinking can come while exercising on a machine, because it clears out your mind of everything but that one movement that is being repeated. The doorway for more creative ideas opens in the absence of complex choreography.
The problem is that I get bored. Very bored. I start focusing on how bored I am, followed quickly by how exhausted I am. That happens within the first 10 minutes so I have to find ways to keep going.

Why Do You Want To Look Younger?

June 27, 2008

Mary wrote a great comment at the end of the article This Month in Vogue : Sex in Magazines . She questioned why young girls today try so hard to be seen as sex objects. I define a sex object as someone whose only feature or purpose of interest is sex. Any other aspect of their being is expendable.
This same question applies at the other end of the age spectrum as well, doesn’t it? Women have themselves carved up and injected … for what? What is looking younger going to get us?

Your Perfect Colors

June 24, 2008

V.1 of this article was written 8 months ago. I’ve changed it a little because I used a picture that didn’t belong to me. Back then, I didn’t understand copyright regulations on the internet. I took the picture down of course. I took down the entire article. It was a chance to think about what I wrote again. I am more certain than ever that what is written below is correct.
Back in 1981, Carole Jackson wrote a great book called Color Me Beautiful. This is an amazing book. The information contained on those pages is still right on.

Sites To Know : Jacquie Lawson E-Cards

June 21, 2008

These are said to be the most elegant e-cards on the web, and they are. These cards are unique and remarkable.
The first card that I saw, indeed that many people saw, was the Christmas card with Jacquie’s dog, Chudleigh. The card is called Christmas Cottage. Chudleigh now has a wide selection of cards and his own about page , as you will see .

The Universe Isn’t Out There

June 18, 2008

There’s an article in the Archives called Hey, Universe, Are You Ignoring Me? The question arose from my exasperation with having tried to think all the right thoughts, declaring my intentions to the Universe, and yet finding no opportunities arising from it, not even small ones.
It has been revealed to me that there is no Universe out there that is listening to my intentions. The only Universe that matters is inside my own head. It is my own subconscious that needs to hear my plans.

Sunscreen Search 2008

June 16, 2008

Each year, I take a look at what’s on offer in the sunscreen world. Our family goes through 12-15 tubes in a summer, so I’m price-conscious. What I put on my face ( see the articles Clinique : A Gorgeous Lipstick, A Fabulous Sunscreen and 2 Estee Lauder Product Reviews : A Best-In-Class Sunscreen and a So-So Foundation ) and what my kids cover themselves with at the beach or the pool is not the same product. To show you how seriously I take sun protection, take a look at my new sunglasses.

2 Beautiful Bronzers for Early Summer

June 13, 2008

As soon as warm weather arrives, we want a little more color on our face. It looks great and it’s a lovely way to celebrate the prospect of several months of summer. In Canada, it matters.
Bronzer is the best way to get that color. I think it’s also the most attractive. You can put it where you want it and never look burned. A real tan just looks old these days.

Book Review : Cooking With Foods That Fight Cancer

June 11, 2008

While it’s true that some cancers can be cured nowadays, it still must figure among the most dreaded diagnoses. In Canada, 400 people are told they have cancer each day. Can you imagine being one of them?
Not a week goes by that I don’t have to tell an owner that their pet has cancer. Dogs get it a lot, especially the bigger breeds. Seeing the devastation in the family and the deterioration in the animal as this sickness claims its life makes me very aware of the hideous misery of it.

Product Review : Aveda Lip Tint SPF 15

June 9, 2008

By far my favorite Aveda product is the makeup. The pigments are lovely, the colors, for the most part, are very wearable though the whole collection looks shinier every time I look at it.
They make 2 makeup products that are luminary. The first is the sheer tinted foundation with sunscreen, called Inner Light Tinted Moisture SPF 15.

This Month In Vogue : Sex In Magazines

June 7, 2008

It’s hard to find a women’s magazine without discussions of sex these days, unless you are looking for a magazine with recipes or home dec. If the topic is fashion, beauty, fitness, or if you fit into the 18-30 demographic, you’re in for it, like it or not.
On the cover of Vogue (Vogue!) this month is SJP, with the feature title “Let’s Talk About Sex”.
